Sengoku Avengers: Black Widow and Hawkeye by genesischant Sengoku Avengers: Black Widow and Hawkeye by genesischant
The penultimate entry in this series of Marvel's Avengers translated into Japanese warring-states period heroes. This is a double-feature, because I'm using the movie version of the team as a basis for this project. The movie grouped these two and gave them roughly the same weight as the big guys who had their own lead-in movies.

Black Widow is reimagined as 'Kumo'.
Hawkeye is reimagined as 'Takajyou'.

'Kumo' is the code-name for the deadly ninja spy, Natsuko Iruma. Iruma was raised from birth in a brutal shinobi clan. She was trained to be an expert kunoichi, willing to kill or die at command. She was eventually assigned to infiltrate the court of the Shogun to destroy the shogunate from the inside.

The man known as 'Takajyou' was born Kin Obata. Obata was an orphan from a remote region of Japan, raised by bandits. His archery skills are without equal, easily able to fire off several shots at great range with pinpoint accuracy. He was the leader of a small gang until the day he was defeated and recruited by the spymaster of the Tate-ryuu.

It was here that Iruma came to the attention of the mysterious leader of the shogun's secret guard. Impressed with her superb skills, Iruma was given the option of joining. Fighting years of conditioning, she agreed to join, in large part due to her budding relationship with a fellow recruit, Takajyou.

Both now work for the fearsome Tate-ryuu, living and fighting in the shadows.

Intriguing designs! The line art is clean and flows nicely. And this is the first time I've seen the Avengers re-imagined like this.

Weirdly enough considering the whole connection between Japan and russia, I would have maybe played her up a bit more as from the Kurile Islands (between the Russian/Japan border), maybe Russian born but adopted and engrained in Japanese culture.

Haha this series is pretty cool, I really like it!!!
I like the fitting rendition you made them, it's also kind of amusing. I like how you were able to add the touch of ukiyo-e feeling to it and I really really like the outfits on their own with the pattern and colour schemes.
Great job on it - all of them, but this one is particularly my fav for yome reason. Too bad I don't know much of the Avangers characters to understand better the symbolism here.

Takajyo looks a bit like Hogun of the Warriors Three

Awesome as always... Of course, an archer and a spy-cum-assassin need a little less change than a man in powered armor or a radioactive behemoth, but anyway. I like their subdued, more humble style, befitting their different purpose and different background.

The trouble with the easiest to translate characters is always making sure that they are interesting enough. I think it helped to group them like this.

These are so baller I don't even. Are they sporting the same pattern on their clothes?

I especially like hawkeye's headband and hair, for some reason. And natasha's face. You totally nailed that one.

Thanks! The pattern is the same, with a slightly different color scheme. It incorporates the hexagonal 'Tate-ryuu' mon that I'm using for SHIELD characters. I think it turned out looking like camouflage, which is cool. I was happy with Hawkeye's headband (look at that clever "H", ho ho), and I'm glad you think Natasha turned out okay. I wasn't sure about hair color.

Or you could surprise us and do the two classic Avengers we haven't seen in the films yet, Wasp and Henry Pym. (though if I recall they do refernce Wasp in one of the films)

I actually used the classic comic version of the Avengers for my Occult Turn-of-the-Century Heroic spin on the team.

I've always liked the visual pairing of Giant-Man Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne's Wasp. I probably won't include them in this one because I made a decision early on to use the movie version of the team as a starting point.

Very nice re-imaginings, dude. I believe this is the whole set, unless you plan to add Fury as well?
