, Marvel's foremost mutant hero team reimagined as characters from historical samurai drama.
is reimagined as Master Zenjirou
Kazu Zenjirou was a master swordsman, and in his day he traveled the country, testing his skills against many of the greatest martial artists alive. Through his breadth of experience he developed a unique philosophy-- and spent his sunset years recruiting and establishing a school to teach it. His philosophy embraces the broken people in society, the outcasts and the rebels. He teaches a radical message of egalitarian worth, and a celebration of differences.
Realizing his ideas were likely to be perceived as extremely controversial by the authorities, he decided to camouflage his group of students as a new Sword School, the Zenji-ryuu. There he teaches a martial style that combines the harnessing of one's inner energy or 'ki' with more traditional combat training-- all while also instilling the principles of his political and social views.
Zenjirou, or 'Master Zenji' is an expert on utilizing his own ki, and can accomplish great feats, even felling opponents without a single physical blow. Likewise his instincts in combat allow him to read an enemy's intentions through the flow of their energy.
The long years have left their mark, however-- a wound received in a duel with an old friend has left him unable to walk without a cane. Caught between extremists advocating violent reordering of the structures of society and a repressive government that fears new ways of thought, he fights to bring the country a little closer to his ideal of a harmonious world.
