Marvel comics' mutant heroes reinterpreted as samurai drama characters.
Okay, I've decided to do a few more of these-- probably some of the X-Men I didn't use for my core team, and perhaps a few other Marvel characters as well.Nightcrawler
is reimagined as Aooni
Kurada Wakanami is a half-demon, the son of a mortal and a powerful oni lord of the underworld. His brother and twin was taken back to Yomi with his father, and the infant Kurada was left with his mother. Unable to care for him, she gave Kurada to a traveling band of performers. With his bizarre appearance, he was well-suited to the heavy makeup and outlandish costumes. He specialized in vengeful demon characters, which made full use of his demonic attributes.
As Kurada grew older, it became more difficult to conceal his true nature. He had also grown restless, and wanted to explore the wider world. The stories he helped perform were full of heroes and adventures, and he was ready to begin his own. When Master Zenji approached him, he eagerly agreed to join the swordmaster's special school.
In the troupe, he learned stage combat and a variety of acrobatic dances. As a part demon, he has the natural ability to walk the hidden paths of the world, but due to his human blood he can do this only briefly. As an actor, he used this ability to swiftly appear and disappear on stage for dramatic stunts. Now he trains these same skills as a member of Zenjriou's school.
EDIT: Totally forgot to include that Kurada was a secret convert to Christianity, one of several that hid among the actors in the traveling acting troupe. Yet another reason that Master Zenji's dream of an inclusive society was appealing.
