Cyclops is reimagined as Dokugan.

'Dokugan' (One-eyed) is the sword name of Sousuke Natsume, the eldest son and heir to the Natsume samurai clan. When he was a boy, the head family was attacked in the night by a mysterious, sinister demon. The demon spirited away his parents, and though he escaped capture, he caught a glimpse of the creature out of the corner of his left eye. Ever since, that eye has burned and pulsed with corruption.

When superstitious (and power-hungry) members of a secondary branch of the clan refused to allow him to succeed his father because of his curse, Sousuke cut the eye out. Unfortunately, its evil power persisted in the empty space- and Sousuke was forced to leave, his young brother Akihiro becoming the nominal family head.

Sousuke found a new place at a strange new sword school that accepts outcasts such as himself. He is a diligent student, prone to over-seriousness, but absolutely loyal to Master Zenji and the other students of the school. Despite its absence, he can see perfectly well with his missing eye-- and it has other weird properties. People who look into its depths are beset by nightmarish visions, and he is often able to see spirits and other supernatural beings that normal human eyes cannot.
