Jidaigeki X-Men: Apocalypse by genesischant Jidaigeki X-Men: Apocalypse by genesischant
Marvel comics' mutant heroes reinterpreted as samurai drama characters.

After finishing the X-Men, I thought it might be fun to do a few of their villains.

Apocalypse is reimagined as Doguu.

The thing known as the Doguu has existed since the ancient past. Where it goes, destruction follows in its wake.

The Doguu is a living creature of baked clay, the culmination of a dying culture's considerable spiritual arts. It can be cracked and broken, but it always reforms, for its essence resides in a curse on the land itself. The mysterious civilization that gave it life has fallen, and its secrets are now lost to the ages, but the Doguu remains.

To some it makes promises of great powers, but these promises are naught but ashes of a ruined world. The obliteration of all things is its timeless goal.

Cool.  was kinda surprised.

I was thinking he be more like Hulk's iteration.... but more surrended to the demon powers with in.

And then having some intimidating armour. with the regal purple.

But still love the idea. the whole eternal Apocalypse.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but are you using mayan or omec inspiration for this version of Apocalypse? Because if you are, than it is an awesome touch, evoking a feeling lost civilizations alien to the main cast.

It would be interesting if you gave Apocalypse a judeo-christian/religious angle to him, since the word "apocalypse" is greek for "revelation."

It would be him saying: "I am the prophet of the divine. I am the holy revelation and herald of the coming age! I AM THE APOCALYPSE!"

In keeping with the 'edopunk' aesthetic of this particular series, the ancient Egyptian character Apocalypse is reimagined using ancient Japanese inspiration. The Doguu are these weird clay figures made by the prehistoric peoples of Japan. [link]

I like the reference, though. Totally appropriate for the character.

Genius...That really gives him an eerie feel about him and fits it very nicely with the others.

This is straight-up incredible. The fact you took Apocalypse's Egyptian roots, and not only made it Japanese, but made it work, only increase the coolness factor.

Agreed. This was one of the characters I was seriously doubting he could fit into the Jidaigeki concept, but he pulled it off with flying colors.

I hope he continues with these. I'd like to see him do this with Onslaught or Juggernaut.

Hmmm, what's left in villains? Sabretooth and Juggernaut, I would think, those are the only two major Animated X-Men villains I can think of. Though I am curious if you're going to do anything with Bishop, considering he was in a good few episodes.

gambit508 Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2012
Ah true, but they're more of a force rather than one patricular guy
