Chambara Hero Aquaman.

The last in my series of Justice League characters reinterpreted as jidaigeki chambara-style heroes. Expect a full line up in the near future!

Chambara Aquaman is known as 'Ningyo'.

The quiet village of Kannonshou (観音礁), located among the Ryukyu islands, was an unlikely place for miracles. When a beautiful and strange creature walked out of the sea one day, the people were skeptical. The creature called itself Amabie, Queen of the Waters, and warned the villagers of a terrible storm. Most of the villagers didn't believe her warning, and when the storm came the next day, many died or were injured. When the creature returned, they blamed her for the catastrophe and set upon her with sticks and rocks, and only the brave intervention of an old fisherman allowed her to escape. That night, the fisherman was visited by a beautiful stranger, a woman who shared his bed and was gone before the morning. Nine months later, a baby was discovered on the shore, left in a basket of reeds and seaweed.

The fisherman adopted the boy, correctly believing him to be his own, a child half-human and half-sea spirit. He named him Oren for the small tattoo of a lotus blossom on his shoulder. Oren's childhood was difficult as his differences became more and more manifest. He began to wear an eye-patch to hide his left eye, which was like a that of a fish. The village people were afraid of him, and treated him poorly as a result. He earned the nickname 'Ningyo', Fishman.

When his father died, Oren went to sea and began a life of piracy, targeting the wealthy and unjust especially. He gathered a crew of outcasts like himself, and together they've had many adventures. He taught himself to use a spear, and his excellent technique is supplemented by his supernatural abilities. He can commune with the ocean spirits, and swim like a fish. He distrusts normal people, and prefers the company of his crew and the sea.

the origin story isn't actually all that different from the actual comics origin story
Arthur curry was the son of a lighthouse worker and the queen of Atlantis, as such he was blessed with superhuman strength, speed, senses, and nearly impenetrable skin.

And yes. This applies on land

growing up he realized that he was heir to the throne and became the King of Atlantis, having a kingdom technologically thousands of years ahead of us, and armies of superhumans and high level mages.

also he can telepathically control any marine life(including great white sharks, giant squids, killer whales, etc. etc.,), but obviously that's useless! Who needs another army?

His standard equipment is usually an Atlantean Scale Mail that can deflect bullets, fire, concussive force and energy beams, and the Trident of the First King of Atlantis, and unbreakable weapon that can absorb magical attacks, and is sharp enough to make beings like superman or darkseid bleed; it's said to be one of the most powerful weapons in the DC universe and it's full potential still hasn't been unlocked. Ah yes, and his wife can control the entire ocean with her mind.

His only weakness if that if he goes too long without water, he gets weaker. But then again, so do normal human beings. Batman is a normal human being.

He's a founding member of the Justice League for a reason mate
sorry if I came off as rude or anything

tl;dr: Aquaman isn't useless but yes this version of him is rather cool
