Chambara Hero Aquaman.
The last in my series of Justice League characters reinterpreted as jidaigeki chambara-style heroes. Expect a full line up in the near future!
Chambara Aquaman is known as 'Ningyo'.
The quiet village of Kannonshou (観音礁), located among the Ryukyu islands, was an unlikely place for miracles. When a beautiful and strange creature walked out of the sea one day, the people were skeptical. The creature called itself Amabie, Queen of the Waters, and warned the villagers of a terrible storm. Most of the villagers didn't believe her warning, and when the storm came the next day, many died or were injured. When the creature returned, they blamed her for the catastrophe and set upon her with sticks and rocks, and only the brave intervention of an old fisherman allowed her to escape. That night, the fisherman was visited by a beautiful stranger, a woman who shared his bed and was gone before the morning. Nine months later, a baby was discovered on the shore, left in a basket of reeds and seaweed.
The fisherman adopted the boy, correctly believing him to be his own, a child half-human and half-sea spirit. He named him Oren for the small tattoo of a lotus blossom on his shoulder. Oren's childhood was difficult as his differences became more and more manifest. He began to wear an eye-patch to hide his left eye, which was like a that of a fish. The village people were afraid of him, and treated him poorly as a result. He earned the nickname 'Ningyo', Fishman.
When his father died, Oren went to sea and began a life of piracy, targeting the wealthy and unjust especially. He gathered a crew of outcasts like himself, and together they've had many adventures. He taught himself to use a spear, and his excellent technique is supplemented by his supernatural abilities. He can commune with the ocean spirits, and swim like a fish. He distrusts normal people, and prefers the company of his crew and the sea.
